Be Bold

Is something making you afraid?

Maybe you have to make a presentation to your boss, ask ’someone special’ out on a date or have a legal battle ahead of you?

Whatever it is, fear and anxiety are not always bad because they are natural emotional responses to threats and danger. Like with most things, so long as you are in control instead of being controlled, it can turn out to be something positive. It becomes a problem when you allow it to paralyze you and stop you from becoming all that you ought to be.

The emphasis is on YOU because YOU have to confront fear and anxiety and move in the direction that gives victory. This requires boldness, which is a willingness to get things done despite the risks you may face.

Watch this video of people doing awesome things and let it motivate you to be bold and strong.

Be bold because God is with you. Christians are blessed because we have God Himself promising to help us when afraid. Whenever fear creeps in, we need to ask ourselves if we are walking in faith and have a victorious mindset? If not, then we need to spend more time in God’s word and learn about His promises.

Listed below are just a few of His awesome promises:

Deuteronomy 31:8

Psalm 27

Psalm 34

Psalm 37

Philippians 4

The Bible is full of many more such promises and knowing and acting on them should give you the confidence to pursue your goals.

You have a choice – either believe God and His word or forget about Him (and all the other promises He has for you).

Choose to believe and fill your mind with His promises!

Afraid? … feel the fear and ‘do it afraid’!

Be blessed

Make That Move

It’s like de ja vu all over again.

It is so easy to get ‘stuck in a rut’ and love being there. Do you know how long it took me to start this blog? Way Toooo Long!

Wanna know why? Laziness and procrastination (loved my sleep), excuses (I needed an ‘editor’ to review my articles) and not prioritizing (busy doing nothing).

Now, lets talk about you! What is before you that requires you to make a move? Is it going out on a date with someone special, starting a new business or going back to school? Whatever it is, the longer you delay, the more you’ll be without it.

Listen to this song and while not necessarily Christian, there is some wisdom in the words.

Some of you have been walking round your proverbial ‘wall of Jericho’ for 20 years instead of 7 times.

There are men or women you could have married, businesses you could have started but, for whatever reason, you never made it happen. Others now have, and are enjoying, what could have been yours.

YOU HAVE NOT BECAUSE YOU MOVE NOT!

It’s time to blow your proverbial trumpet so your dream can come true.

Do something now so you don’t die with your gifting and talent.

Forgive that person who hurt or offended you.

When I look back over my life, the things I regret most are the things I did not do. There can be nothing worse than being on your death bed and imagining what life could have been only if you had …… (you fill in the blanks)

Don’t let fear stop you from maximizing your life. Don’t hold back and let the good things in life pass you by. Don’t let a past mistake or experience paralyse you.

It’s time to ‘make that move’! Step out in faith.

Do it and be blessed.

Don’t Give Up – Finish Well

I just can’t take it anymore, this is just too much! Its too difficult and not worth continuing! I GIVE UP!

Ever felt that way about a situation? Maybe you just started a business and the recession hit … now you think it was the biggest mistake ever and feel like throwing in the towel; or you are studying for a difficult exam; or trying to make your marriage work.

When things are not going according to ‘plan’, it’s easy to feel betrayed by God because He has somehow ’let you down’.

You begin to doubt your ability to hear from Him and your faith is weakened.

Giving up then becomes an option … however before you decide on that, watch this video.

Valley experiences can be difficult because when you look up, all you may see are mountains of ‘problems’. However, with a Godly perspective you will see these ‘problems’ as opportunities for growth. You will realize these trials are there to ‘make you’ not ‘break you’.

In the Bible, King David overcame trials because whenever he ‘walked’ into a valley he knew God was with him … and guess what, that same God is with you too.

God will not give you more than you can bear and He has given you the grace to cope and go through it. Don’t stop praying for that child or marriage. Don’t stop fighting that disease and don’t let that situation defeat you.

Giving up is always the easiest option. Derek Redmond could have … but he did not give up in the video. Why? Because even though he could not win the gold medal, at least he could finish his race.

Remember that, weeping (pain, frustration, discouragement and failure) may endure for a night but joy (success, victory, release) comes in the morning.

Keep on keeping on and God will see you through and give you victory in His own time.

Be blessed

Focus

A key to success in any endeavour is to concentrate or focus on your goal or objective.

As you can see from the cartoon below, the goal of your adversary is to do the same to you – in their case to distract you thus ensuring a ‘strike out’.

In situations like this, it’s important to listen to the voices going on in your head and determine who or what you should really listen too.

You must not quit or do something dumb and get disqualified.

What are you trying to achieve? Are you trying to finish a college degree, start up a new business or repair a broken relationship? Are things going haywire despite your best efforts to make things happen.

Whatever it is keep your eyes on the prize and FOCUS, which also stands for:

Follow – Keep moving ahead.

One – Be of a single mind (not double minded)

Course – One direction

Until – DONT STOP

Successful – Victory

Who should you focus on in times of uncertainty? Well, it depends on who influences you.

As a Christian, firstly I choose to focus on and listen to Him who 1) keeps me in perfect peace and 2) has taken away the spirit of fear and given me a Spirit of Power and a sound mind.

After being in His presence and crowding out other voices, I gain the confidence to go ahead despite the odds.

Whatever you are facing today, there is someone with a solution to your problem and He is longing for you to reach out to Him. He is waiting on you to take the first step … will you?

Be blessed!

Be Prepared

Like the old saying goes ‘stuff happens’.

Well, how do you respond when ‘stuff’ happens to you, unexpectedly, like in this video?

I bet that made you smile, but in real life it’s no laughing matter.

Unexpected events like this can cause ’road rage’ and serious heartburn if you do not keep your emotions in check.

I have found that the best way is to plan ahead for the unexpected and devise solutions to anticipated problems.

In life, whether at work or at play, it helps to think ahead about possibilities – both positive or negative. Preparation and forethought may eliminate or lessen the impact of any surprises or curve balls life throws at you.

As Christians, we have additional help in the form of the Holy Spirit. Through His fruit of peace and self control, amongst others, we can rise above any adverse circumstance and live a victorious life.

If you are interested in knowing more about Him, just touch base with me and i’ll be glad to introduce you to Him.

Stay blessed.

The Great Exchange

You may have heard about the Great Escape

but …

have you heard about the Great Exchange?

This Great Exchange happened over 2000 years ago

Really?

Yes.

What’s it all about?

Jesus came to exchange:

Darkness for Light

Sorrow for Joy

Mourning for Dancing

Death for Abundant life

Sickness for Health

Heaviness for Relief

The good news is …

it is all for free,

you don’t have to pay a dime.

God in His love has paid it all

But …

He cannot do it by Himself

He would not force you

He wants you to ask Him to help.

It’s a choice you must make.

YOU MUST PLAY YOUR PART.

To receive it

Say Yes, Lord

to all of the above

and

Sing-a-long to this song too.

Sincere and Passionate … but no Skill

Sincerity and passion always make things happen … or do they?

Take a look at this.

Ashiq is the kind of guy I want on my team. He has several things going for him, namely:

1) passion
2) sincerity
3) belief
4) vision
5) some sort of ‘purity’ and innocence.

However, he lacks the critical thing that brings everything together for success … Skill (talent or knowledge).

The ‘funny’ thing is, because of his passion, I found myself somehow rooting for his success and was a little disappointed when he was not given the chance to prove himself.

I learnt the following from this video:

1) If emotional, it’s easy to place people in positions because you like their passion or vision even though they don’t have the skills to make things happen. (This happens a lot in Churches, volunteer organisations and family run businesses.)

2) Whenever assessing yourself or others for any position, it’s important to look at both ‘ability and desire’. The Book of Proverbs 19:2 actually talks about why ‘zeal must be matched with knowledge‘.

3) Placing a ‘square peg in a round hole’ can do a lot of damage or lead to suboptimal results. Had the judges allowed Ashiq to continue, all they would have done was to lower standards and delay the inevitable … him getting voted out in subsequent rounds.

4) Saying ‘No’ can sometimes be the best thing for both parties. The judges did Ashiq a big favour because he can either acquire the necessary skills and try again or find another avenue to achieve his goals.

Are you sincere and passionate about something? Do you want to ‘save the world’ or start a business?

Whilst your heart may be in the right place, take time to develop the skills needed to make your dream come true.

Focus on polishing your gift and it will make room for you.

Be blessed.

At Least He Tried

This video is very, very funny … well sort of!

After the laughter died down, it struck me that although most people will laugh at Robert, he did something most people only talk about … he had the courage and self belief to put himself out there.

Yes, he was not sure about it all but, he showed up, may have looked like a fool, gave it his best and got something lots of us never get in life … honest feedback.

Although it may have been labelled the ‘worst audition ever’, for Robert it was beneficial, because he left there knowing his capabilities and what he could not do. He now probably has a clearer picture of his future and can stop dreaming about being a pop star!

You see, Robert has lived his dream.

Now, lets talk about you! What are you doing about your dream? Have you put something out and been tested? Have you written that book or asked that stunning girl out, knowing that someone’s bound to ridicule you. Or are you playing it safe and still in your harbour, not setting sail.

Remember … its better to have tried and failed than not to have tried at all.

Most people focus on the fact that, due to fear, Peter started sinking after walking on water. What most people forget is that Peter did something most of us have never done – ‘He walked on water’. Have you?

My advice is ‘always do YOUR best’ and even if it’s not good enough for others, you can always look back and know you lived your life to the max.

That’s what I am doing with this blog. It may not be perfect but hey, I am giving it my best shot and living my dream.

What about you? Are you living your dream? … I hope so.

Be blessed
